Mayors of North and South Mitrovica Goran Rakić and Agim Bahtiri met last night with KFOR commander General Mikele Risi on the main Ibar bridge and urged all citizens to respect measures taken to combat coronaviruses

"The situation in the Balkans, other parts of Europe and the whole world is very serious. That is why I am very sure that the citizens of Mitrovica will listen carefully to the recommendations of the public institutions and these mayors and I know that all this will be respected, "said General Risi.

The mayor of North Mitrovica, Goran Rakić, expressed his gratitude for the assistance offered by the KFOR commander, who once again pointed to the danger posed by the coronavirus.

"Unfortunately, this “monster” has not bypassed our municipality either. This evil does not recognize the administrative, national, political and religious differences and borders, and that is why I urge all citizens to take responsibility and, while protecting themselves primarily, to preserve everything around them. Young people, who are also the most common carriers of this virus, are not protected from this virus, so I especially urge them to comply with all the measures and instructions given by the competent authorities and the Crisis Committee. This is the only way we will save our lives, Rakić said.

He pointed out that the coronavirus specifically caused financial harm to people in private business, but that the damage could be far greater if everyone did not comply with the prescribed measures.

"So once again, I ask everyone to stay in their homes and thus save their lives. I would like to thank doctors and medical professionals, as well as other institutions that work selflessly to make us all safer,” Rakić said.

In a similar tone, his colleague from South Mitrovica Agim Bahtiri spoke, who asked all citizens, regardless of nationality, to abide by the recommendations prescribed by the institutions.

"I ask all citizens of Mitrovica, both North and South, regardless of their nationality, to comply with the recommendations of the institutions. We are maximally fighting the virus that came from the outside. This virus does not know the nationality and is confronted by the whole world. I urge all citizens in Kosovo, especially in South and North Mitrovica, to obey all the instructions of the General Committee established in Pristina, who recommend that you stay at home. It would also be a requirement of our highest health institutions and those of the World Health Organization, "Bahtiri said.

Bakhtiri said that everyone should respect the measures and timetable on freedom and prohibition of movement, as well as the proper distance.

"In the north, one person died of coronavirus and I hope it will be the last casualty," Bahtiri concluded.
