NDI observed online hate speech and targeted disinformation campaigns attacking women candidates and other vulnerable groups in society during its media monitoring of the 2019 election campaign period. Violence against women in politics which includes online violence, bullying, and harassment can discourage women from taking roles on political leadership.
In response, NDI will conduct a new Women’s Leadership Academy for women focused on combating these issues through digital campaigns and advocacy. This program will take place online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Advanced WLA: Digital Skills' will be organised in an intensive eight weeks course during May - June, 2020.

NDI will conduct a competitive recruitment process among past WoW and WLA participants to select a new multi-ethnic and multiparty cohort composed of twenty five women with an interest in digital advocacy. With an eye toward the local elections, NDI will aim to have 70 percent of the participants be intended candidates for the local elections anticipated in 2021. The working language during this program will be English.

NDI will engage trainers and speakers with an extensive respective experience and background to provide training on how to write and propose policy solutions; how to recognize online violence and debunk disinformation; create political support using social media platforms and project strong political reputation digitally. Through facilitated discussion, participants will identify priority concerns and common issues to pursue. Based on the issues identified, NDI will provide regular training and coaching, which will allow participants to continue to develop and implement digitally local advocacy initiatives with national relevance, within multi-ethnic groups, with the aim of pursuing legislative or other policy change. Following each module participants will complete individual tasks to provide incremental content that will result in an individual digital campaign strategy that will help to elevate their public profile and complete their advocacy initiatives. Moreover, participants will be engaged biweekly group assignments to provide content that will result into the group Digital Strategy Advocacy Campaign to address the issues they identify.
