UNMIK has begun donating food packages, hygiene products, protective equipment and technological tools to all municipalities across Kosovo, with the Special Representative of the Secretary General and Head of UNMIK Zahir Tanin kicking off the two-week COVID-19 assistance drive today.

"We are part of a bigger effort together with the government, institutions and health workers, in tackling this pandemic. Today marks the start of a comprehensive response to reach communities in all municipalities, especially those who are most vulnerable.”

Two UNMIK trucks are delivering the donations over the next two weeks, including 2159 food packages, 1450 hygiene packages, 2072 protective equipment packages and 265 tablets. The first step will see food and hygiene parcels donated, with protective equipment and tablets - to enable children to continue learning - coming soon, SRSG Tanin said, after personally handing over the first donations to Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje mayor Burim Berisha.

The assistance, which includes products like flour, oil, soap and feminine hygiene products, will be received by municipalities and then delivered to those most in need.
