The spread of the Covid-19 virus has caused a public health crisis, along with an economic crisis around the world. In Kosovo, where preventive measures have been taken since the first case of the infection, the pandemic has begun to have a significant impact on the country's fragile economy.

The independent media sector has also been significantly affected: most independent media outlets have reported declining advertising revenues, and some have fired journalists and other workers as a result of the pandemic.

However, in these unprecedented circumstances, journalists and media organizations continued to work informing citizens.

Given the essential role of independent journalism in emergencies and the need for fair reporting at this time, the Kosovo Open Society Foundation (KFOS) has developed an urgent grant scheme to assist independent media outlets registered in Kosovo.

These emergency grants will be awarded to local media to help them report more deeply on the impact and consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic in Kosovo.

Applications are accepted from 18 to 25 May 2020 until 23:59 by e-mail at konkursi@kfos.org
