During emergencies, the public obviously and clearly expresses the need for timely and accurate information. Panic is the enemy of emergencies, while a lack of timely and accurate information is a trigger for panic.
Also, in the absence of such information and due to the public’s need for it, disinformation or „fake news“ emerges.
Lack of quality information and disinformation undermine the security and quality of our lives and societies.
In the coronavirus pandemic which has afflicted people from all parts of the planet, this virus still represents a kind of mystery. We learn about it on the go and we have yet to learn about the consequences of global change, the good and bad sides of the system in our environments.
Unfortunately, we are all contemporaries of a wealth of news that turns into an overload of information for many, while we are still facing many unknowns about the pandemic and the new situation in which we have found ourselves.
Fortunately, all of us can be mindful of the way we inform ourselves and understand media content in today’s data smog.
