Proud of a city of peace, dialogue and debate

It is not in vain to say that in a place where there is no debate, dialogue and tolerance, that place is black and we must say goodbye to that place. Because of this, I feel very good to the mayor of Gjilan for the fourth term, where quite a lot of people are involved in decision making, especially when it comes to cultural, religious and ethnic diversity. I am not saying that we are good, but compared to previous years, Gjilan has 'blossomed'.

Gjilan is the best example in Kosovo of respecting cultural, religious and ethnic diversity and fostering dialogue in several layers. Even in the region.

In this city, you can often see the leaders of four religious confessions sitting at a table, which continues to foster inter-religious and inter-ethnic dialogue. We witnessed that we saw the head of the Islamic community cleaning the courtyard of St. Anne's Church in the Danube in Karadak, and a Catholic priest cleaning the mosque of Mulla Idriz Gjilani, in the same village. I think that for these types of values, the state needs to pay attention to this, in this case the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. Also, for the initiative of the Municipality of Gjilan, that the church of St. Nicholas was renovated, as well as the restoration of the common cemetery. Gjilan now has cemeteries for Catholics and Protestants, in addition to the Muslim, Orthodox and Jewish traditions they traditionally share. We planted seedlings in these cemeteries, along with the leaders of four religious denominations.

All these events tell you that the southeastern city of Kosovo is the best example of debate, dialogue for peace and respect for citizens. Local and international organizations, as well as major international institutions, highly rate Gjilan for its tolerance and dialogue.

Not to neglect, I bring to you the authentic assessment of the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative, who presented at a Security Council meeting (2017) a realistic state of peace, tolerance and cooperation between communities. "In the last three months, I had the opportunity to meet the Mayor of Gjilan, Mr. Lutfi Haziri. I have noted a genuine commitment to promoting community collaboration, solving specific problems, and meeting people's needs. I have not encountered political rhetoric but serious work aimed at building a tolerant society. "
