UNMIK and OHCHR supported the Missing Persons Resource Center (MPRC) to produce a video on its ongoing work in support of the process of clarifying the fate of the missing and addressing the challenges that families still face in searching for the truth.

The video was launched on the occasion of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances on 30 August by the Missing Persons Resource Center (MPRC), which UNMIK helped establish in 2017.

The associations of families of missing persons continue to be active stakeholders in the search for missing persons, calling on all concerned parties to refrain from politicizing the search for the missing and emphasizing the importance of this human rights issue. The families from all communities continue to cooperate and engage on the issue, thus working toward a common goal and allowing for trust building between communities.

On the occasion of the International day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, on 30 august 2021, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Kosovo and Head of UNMIK, Zahir Tanin, stressed the importance of shedding light on the fate of missing persons, and expressed UNMIK's commitment to continuing to fully support this process and the right of their family members to learn the truth, while expressing concern that the process appears to have stalled in recent months due to political impasse. Out of 6,064 persons reported missing, there are still 1,630 open cases of missing persons, of which 1,367 men and 263 are women.
