The fifth competition for the short story "Biber" is now open. Acclaimed authors and those who have not published so far, writing in Albanian, Macedonian, Bosnian, Montenegrin, Croatian, or Serbian, can submit their short stories. The competition is open until June 1, 2022.

The theme of the competition

"Apart from stories on reconciliation in the context of the legacy of wars and violence in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, applicable are also stories that can contribute to better understanding among people, reduce hatred and break down prejudices, anti-war stories, stories about dealing with the past, stories which deconstruct images of enemies, compassion for others, brave stories that dare to walk in "enemy" shoes, stories that push the boundaries and open the way for us to build a more secure, safer and freer future for all "- say the organizers.

The authors of the three best stories will be awarded cash prizes.

At least twenty selected works will be published in a multilingual stories collection.

The jury consists of Lejla Kalamujić, Kalina Maleska and Olja Savičević Ivančević. The decision of the jury will be announced in mid-November 2022.

"When you read a story in Serbian, Albanian, Croatian… When you read texts by different writers, in different languages, you see the human in them, and you realize that regardless of national identity, religion, there is something universal - pain and suffering are the same for everyone."
