Mitigating the deepening pre-existing inequalities caused by COVID19, by assisting Roma, Ashkalia and Egyptian communities in Kosovo

The project aimed at addressing socio-economic inequalities and the exclusion of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian and other non-majority marginalized communities in Kosovo, women, youth, children, the elderly and other vulnerable and disadvantaged categories (including IDPs, returnees and repatriated persons) caused by the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

The overall goal of the project was to provide an effective and timely response to as many disadvantaged and marginalized non-majority groups in order to mitigate the negative effects of the COVID-19 outbreak through provision of legal assistance and counseling to access their rights and services, providing them with the necessary psycho-social assistance to smooth and overcome the trauma caused by the change of circumstances as a result of Covid19 as well as through building their skills in order to enable their socio-economic inclusion, link with the labor market and address gender equalities and women empowerment.

Project activities:

-60 psychosocial counseling sessions are provided for women and girls, but also for other affected categories to alleviate trauma and worsening stress, including establishing an online helpline (by phone - free of charge) and through meetings face to face;

-150 legal aid and counseling sessions are provided to all vulnerable people, with a focus on women and girls, to enable the prevention and reduction of the effects of pandemic poverty in particular, by providing access to government assistance / Recovery Plan economic assistance, social assistance, pension, support to complete the application process, taking into account the illiteracy rate, translation gaps, etc.

-25 beneficiaries (15 females and 10 males) have been provided with quality vocational training (for women in tailoring and for men in welding) who were empowered socially and economically thus smoothing their integration into society through building of their skills to start small businesses, were advised and assisted directly into applying for a grant or apply for employment.

-ongoing protection monitoring of the beneficiaries on the impact of the project and services was conducted provided.

- co-ordination with other organizations and agencies to ensure coordination of efforts and non-overlapping was conducted
